OUR MISSION

We're closing
The Gender Pain Gap

Healthcare wasn’t designed for women. For too long, women’s pain has been underestimated, ignored, or dismissed. The result? Misdiagnoses, years of delays, and inadequate care. Hazel exists to change that.

Our mission is simple:
to close these gaps by building a healthcare system that finally works for all of us — connected, evidence-based, and compassionate at every stage of life.

2 in 3 women
feel dismissed by their healthcare providers.
Women are 50% more likely to be misdiagnosed when having a heart attack
Women are more likely to receive sedatives instead of pain medication and  25% less likely than men to receive pain relief
It takes approx 25% longer for women to receive analgesics for acute abdominal pain
Approx 75% of chronic pain sufferers are female, yet 80% of pain study participants are male
Women account for 75/80% of autoimmune conditions, yet diagnosis takes an average of 5 years.
1 in 7 women live with endometriosis, but it can take 7–12 years to be diagnosed.
Only 2 % of public research funding is dedicated to reproductive health and childbirth.
A review of 77 medical articles found gender bias in pain diagnosis: women’s pain is often underestimated, viewed as emotional.

Frequently asked questions

What conditions and symptoms does Hazel treat and support?

Hazel provides comprehensive care for women’s health, offering a holistic approach that addresses both physical and emotional wellbeing. Our Hazel medical services offer personalised support for gynaecological, sexual, and menstrual health, chronic pelvic pain, and offer conventional and natural treatment options, including endocannabinoid medicine.

Our psychology services provide therapy for trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety in a safe, stigma-free environment. For intimacy, pleasure, and sexual anxiety concerns, our sexologists specialise in treating conditions like painful sex and vaginismus.

Our naturopaths offer guidance on nutrition, herbal remedies, and lifestyle changes, supporting overall health. Additionally, we provide convenient pharmacy delivery, ensuring prescriptions and supplements are delivered directly to your door.

Where is Hazel available?

Hazel is available to all Australians, no matter where you live. As a virtual-first clinic, Hazel offers nationwide access to healthcare services—you just need a phone, laptop, and internet connection. Whether you’re based in a city like Melbourne, Sydney, or Adelaide, or in a quiet rural town, Hazel makes quality care easy to access from the comfort of your home.

Does Hazel replace my GP?

Hazel doesn’t replace your GP — instead, we’re a specialist service that complements your existing care team, whether that’s a GP, allied health professionals, or other medical specialists. Having a regular local GP that you can see in person is ideal for comprehensive healthcare, and if you don’t have one, we can help you find a GP to support your ongoing needs.

What if I need in-person care?

While Hazel excels in virtual care, we understand that some health concerns require face-to-face visits, like when you need tests or physical examinations. When necessary, our team will refer you to trusted local providers for any tests, procedures, or specialist appointments you need. We work with these providers to ensure your care remains connected and seamless.

If I do need a prescription, what type of medication can Hazel prescribe?

Hazel’s team can prescribe a variety of natural and conventional medications tailored to your needs, whether you’re seeking treatment for gynaecological, sexual or menstrual health, mental health, or chronic diseases. Every prescription is based on a thorough assessment of your health, ensuring that the medications you receive are right for your situation and goals.

What does it cost to use Hazel and can I receive any rebates?

Hazel keeps pricing simple and upfront, with costs depending on the appointment or treatment you need (see Pricing for more details). Medicare rebates are available for GP consults and psychology and dietetics services with the right referral and plan. Additionally, many private health insurers may offer rebates—check with your provider to see what’s covered.
